May 16, 2008, 2AM: Played 3 hours, Lost $220.00 at Excalibur
$2 No-Limit Texas Hold'em

I played great, just didn't win! Got all my money in twice vs. a draw when I had top pair, and both times my opponent hit.  How do I beat that? I found this room to be to soft for me.  Soft games are good, but this was just kind of rediculous.  these players weren't good at all and it ended up costing me money.

Table was kinda tight and I felt like trying a new room, so I left sort of early.

May 13, 2008, 3PM: Played 2 hours, Lost $70.00 at Ceaser's Palace
$55 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (20th out of 50 Players)

I made my usual mistake. when the blinds got bigger and I had plenty of chips, I took to many gambles.  Calling all-ins with small pairs etc.  I need to really focus on preserving chips in this middle period of a tourny.  Ended up losing when I moved in with A6 vs. A4.  He flopped 3 4's and I was done.

$55 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (6th out of 50 Players)

Played great. I have a GREAT confidance level and record in this tournament.  Couldn't go real deep in the money but I think I made all the right decisions.  Got my money in good and got bad beat.

May 12, 2008, 3AM: Played 4 hours, 30 minutes, Lost $196.00 at MGM
$2 No-Limit Texas Hold'em

Played good, but the game was rocked up and I couldn't get anything going, really.  The table was just to tight and no gamble gamble to make the pots decent sized.

May 11, 2008, 11PM: Played 1 hour, 30 minutes, Lost $700.00 at Bellagio
$5 No-Limit Texas Hold'em

Uhm... Oops. I kinda knew I was supposed to stay away from cash games, and away from the Bellagio.  But I was meeting a friend and he stood me up.  While I was waiitng for him I sat down and lost a lot.  It's was kinda bad beats, like 7s full vs. A's full.  But at the same time that's how games at a place like this go.  It's a really tough game.  if you're not notching the other guy he's got you notched.

May 9, 2008, 10PM: Played 1 hour, Made $406.00 at MGM
$2 No-Limit Texas Hold'em

wow! A winning cash game session! And here I thought I forgot how! I only played this cash game because I was on limited time, was tired. I could tell the difference right away playing tired. I noticed things and
couldnt figure out what they meant until it was to late. Luckily I was never in a hand where I didn't know where I was at. I got 2 good hands in my 1 he play, my buddy was ready to go so I picked up and left with a nice win. I didn't play bad, but I shouldn't play tired either.

I got my confidence back and realized what I'm going to need to do in a cash game.

May 7, 2008, 11PM: Played 1 hour, 30 minutes, Lost $120.00 at Ceaser's Palace
$100 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (27th out of 40 Players)

I guess 4 cashes in a row was just to much to ask for, huh?

I'm actually really happy with how I played the tournament, just wasn't my turn.  I had several situations where I saved chips.  Only 1 borderline situation, I made a big raise w/ nothing on a bluff and got re-raised.  I mucked the hand and moved on.  It didn't cripple me.

I had AJ on the BB, when the flop came A 10 X after I raised preflop I bet out again, rather big because I had 3 callers.  I got a call and a re-raise all in.  I folded putting the caller on a weaker hand, and the all-in on A-10 or a set.  My caller calls and shows a flush draw, the all-in shows A-10. I made a great laydown.  Several hands later I limped in on the cutoff w/ 8d9d.  5 of us to the flop.  Comes down 9c 3c 6h.  Checked to me, I bet about 2/3rds of the pot, and the button calls.  I put him on A 9.  Turn brings an ace.  I check, he bets, I fold.  He tells me he had A 3.  I believe him.

After all this I was down to just over $1500 in chips with blinds at $50/100, and not much time before they went to $100/200/$25.  I feel like I played this situation perfectly.  I preserved chips, didn't get into a pot unless I was willing to bet my entire stack. I played aggressively and based on position and sensing weakness and was able to more than double up without ever having to show down.  I had $3275 in chips going to $100/$200/$25.  I played fairly solid, based on position and hand value, but never had the best of it where I could put my money in.  Between a raise and missing the flop, having to fold, and the blinds and antes I got down to under $2k with about 12 minutes left in the round.  I needed to pick a spot and double up.  There were 2 limpers, and I was on the button with A Q.  I move all in, and the small blind shoved in behind me for a few hundred more.  He turns over JJ, flops a J and my tourny is over.  How can I hate that?!

May 6, 2008, 3PM: Played 3 hours, Made $770.00 at Ceaser's Palace
$55 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (1st out of 42 Players)

Yay!! Finally a tourny win! I've been feeling like I could do this for a while, just needed to put the right combination of skills together.  And unlike my 4th place finish last week I don't feel like this was a lucky break.  I played solid.  Used my new strategy, played more hands and used my experience at post-flop play to outplay my opponents and keep the pots small while I was drawing, and get full value when I had the hand.

I do still feel like my middle tourny strategy needs tuning up still.  I did a great job of b8uilding up a big stack like i have in the past, but once the blinds got bigger I played to many hands.  I let go of to many chips that I didn't need to give away.  By the time we got to the final table I went from 3x the average stack to only about 10 big blinds.  If I can tighten up and only pick on stacks that are REALLY small, not just medium to small I can risk less and go deeper with more chips.  I'm giving away the chips when they are the most precious.

When I got the the final table I had a couple lucky situations.  first I picked up a decent pot with an all in.  Then with decent cards I raised up when i knew the big blind was going to have to shove in no matter what.  That allowed me to actually have some chips to play with.  I used the to pick up the blinds a couple times and snap of desperate small stacks.  When we got 3 handed I was sitting on a huge stack, 75-80% of the chips in play.  The other players agreed to chop 2nd and 3rd among them selves and forfit 1st to me.  I'll take it!
