July 31, 2007, 2PM: Played 20 minutes, Lost $10.00
$0.05/0.10 Texas Hold'em

Was telling myself for sometime now people were pulling one over on me because I was gun shy. Came on a situation were I thought the player was playing the playing and not just his cards. Raising in the small blind to my raise on the button. The flop gave me pair and I bet, he went over the top. I had raised on the button before with a good hand and I was thinking he just thought I stole the blinds that time and was not going to let me get away with anything this time. I called were I knew I shouldn't and he shows pocket A's and takes it. I played very bad in this session and I guess this is where I need to suck it up and not just lick my wounds. This one hurt though!

$1 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (18th out of 18 Players)

JJ on button with limpers behind raise 3/4 of the pot fold round to SB who calls. Nothing flop, straightening out on turn but would need some strange cards having called the 3/4 raise. Did have strange cards 4 5 off and took pot and big portion of my chips. Never recovered. What are ya going to do "That's Poker"

July 31, 2007, 9AM: Played 1 hour, Made $1.30
$0.05/0.10 Texas Hold'em

Gettin a little more comfortable at cash tables. Was never down more then a dollar. Played my preflop cards and made the bets I usually do. Still a little gun shy but I think the lay downs are right even though I can't help thinking they are over betting the pot to take it, just do not feel the hand is strong enough to call. Probably where my game suffers the most.

July 30, 2007, 9PM: Played 1 hour, 26 minutes, Made $6.00
$1 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (1st out of 18 Players)

Just played my game. I was up 3 times the average stack when we were down to 6 players. Just had to stay cool.

Notice my stats look like a roller coaster ride at six flags or something

July 30, 2007, 5PM: Played 1 hour, Lost $0.21
Texas Hold'em

I do not think it is so much I'm getting scared off hands but that they are better to lie down. So I am not unhappy about the play. Just .02/.05 blinds and I go an hr with a 21 cent loss. It happens no matter how good I'm playing. The other day when I was tired I played sloppy and the results showed.

July 30, 2007, 4PM: Played 43 minutes, Lost $1.20
$1 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (6th out of 9 Players)

Well I am just getting out played. Not unhappy with what I'm doing. The tables I played today for the most part had poker players and I just got out played. I thought about "My Game" like I mentioned in the other log. The first time I played it I felt automatic and not really in the game. This time I played with "My Game" as a frame work and went with the feel of it too. I played the right cards preflop and I observed the game, like I said I was just out played.

July 30, 2007, 3PM: Played 48 minutes, Lost $1.20
$1 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (9th out of 9 Players)

I'm taking time to start this log entry before I play a 18 player sit and go. The reason for this is that I want to come into this session with a game plan. Something that I would call "My Game" I was thinking of playing "Howard Lederer type tight" at the beginning (Nothing smaller then KJ and pairs. Then as the levels go up I will loosen up and play some suited A's and smooth call with some suited connectors and gappers. I'm thinking this will take care of two "leaks" I've noted that I have been having with "My Game". One being that I say I play too many hands and two that I get "scared off" of hands. I feel if I go with this stategy, and play aggressively, if I'm scared off a hand then I probably have good reason to be so and not just being out played, and also I will not be playing too many hands. I think this is a good plan to have for a game and then later when I feel comfortable with it I can learn how to "change gears" if need be.

Well I stuck to the game plan. Had a slow start but made the final table. I can think of two times where I went wrong. It seems I played some bets where I should have checked and I got caught. Tone down on the aggression when it is not need or even wise would be the lesson.

July 29, 2007, 4AM: Played 48 minutes, Lost $5.93
$0.05/0.10 Texas Hold'em

Well another lesson learned is not to play poker when you're too tired. Could not get anything going and just played sloppy. Been thinking poker all day and even when I would try to lie down visions of poker hands would dance in my head. That has to be all untill I can rest up.

July 29, 2007, 3AM:
Learning

Being new to poker for the most part, I found the comments about play and the learning process in general very helpful. DeiYuo suggested READ READ READ and I'm sure that is what will be helpful. MT_TECH suggested the book SuperSystem II and I will look that up. Just reading about Steveinho hand in the blog and the comments there was of much help too. I have one book Phil Gordon's Little Green book and there is a quote in it of one of Mike Sexton's sayings "No limit Texas hold'em takes a minute to learn and a lifetime to master."
There are other things in the book that Gordon talks about and one of those is being observent at the table. To watch the hands and if they are showed down to note the cards and how they were played.
Thinking on Steveinho's hand it is interesting that he prefaced the hand in question with a comment of how his opponent had been playing before in this kind of situation.
I find that a helpful lesson too.
I try to notice what kinds of cards a player tends to play and how they play them. I guess that may fall under the catagory of keeping player profiles.
