NCAA Tourney

I run a NCAA pool each year if anyone wants to join.  It's $5 and top 10% are paid so last year top 7 got money as we had 70 people and last gets there money back.  If you want in send a bracket to [email protected] or send me an email I can can send you a bracket on Excel.  Also you can send money to 'King Raj' on FullTilt or 'Raj the King' on Pstars.  Format is 1,3,5,7,10,15 and last year we had about 70 people but I have no clue how many we would have this year.  Updates are sent after each round of games.  Please send money at the same time as your bracket if anyone is interested.  Last year's payout was 135,80,50,30,20,15,10

Hand Histrory Improvements

Just made the first improvements to the hand histories in a while.  I'm always afraid of pushing stuff like this out there since I have a hard time making sure I'm chopping up all the hands properly (for each game/site combination), so please be nice if/when you notice bugs...

At any rate, when you upload hand histories, it will now attempt to extract all players' cards so that the hand history shows a summary of what was dealt to each player (whose cards are known) and what the board was.  Here are some examples:

Hold'em
Omaha
HORSE

That last one shows that Stud games work (as well as they can).  I just hope it works for each site.

As a reminder, we can parse hand histories for Full Tilt, PokerStars, and PartyPoker right now.  Obviously we'd like to get other sites' HH working, but someone would have to express desire to upload hand histories from another site first.

I hope you can see where we're going with this.  Now that the system cn extract the cards, we can head towards telling you what the odds were, wht a given player's tendencies are, what your own tendencies are, and so on.  We just need to link up the odds application with the hand histories...this was one of the main ideas of this site in the beginning.  Maybe sometime in the next 5 years it will be as awesome as we all want it to be.

Thanks for being patient, and thanks for using my little toy.

Weekend Goals

Goals for the weekend...

Saturday 3/12:
1100:$69+6 KO
1200:$100+9
330:$50+5
400:$69+6
600:$100+9
700:$69+6
800:$150+13

If I could get into half of these I would be extremely happy.  I'm starting with 2 $24 tokens so that is a start.  Anyone want to join me? Unfortunately I cannot play Sunday because my group thinks it's a good idea to plan meetings in the middle of the day.  I could do my work and give it to them but I don't really trust them.  Also, this summer I am going to have all of May off regardless so I should be able to play quite a bit.

Is anyone else besides EightFive, NatePringle, and me interested in the mini-stakes competition? If so, Let's try to plan a date so we can actually get this done.

Love,

King Raj

Annette_15

So, a little over a week ago Annette_15 won that 20k person $11 tournament on Stars.  Obviously she is an unbelievable talent and after taking it down she actually posted her complete hand history on p5s.  I thought I had posted this earlier but I guess not, so here's the link:

http://www.pokerxfactor.com/HH118395/4477_20080303_140746

You will probably have to create a pokerxfactor account, but it's free and this was really cool to watch.  It confirmed a lot about what I think about tourney poker, and also was educational.  There are a couple spots (like open-folding JJ) that she explained in the post that she timed out while at another table so the really obviously bad/weird plays can be explained, but outside of that it was a great resource.

Enjoy.

Few tough spots from tonight's tourneys

Ok so this first hand i am really deep (about 90xbb).  There were a couple reasons i folded.  the first being that, in general, when i show the strength i showed preflop and on the flop and there is still a bet and call in front of me on the turn...one of them will usually/should have me beat.  second, i have noticed that people will call a raise out of position and if they flop a set lead weak which is what kingcd did here...

Ok, so in this hand i encountered the same weak bet on the flop with what i think (obviously because i folded) was 3 J's...Preflop i think my raise is completely standard but i am not sure about the flop....the reason i decided to check the flop was to either see a cheap turn and keep the pot small if he had a J or if he bet at it i could raise and take it down or know i was beat if he was able to 3-bet.  I think too often when i bet the flop i am getting raised by a J and a bluff because they think i won't lead with a J and therefore i am just c-betting...if i lead and get repopped i now have to commit all my chips in a spot where i don't really feel confident about whether he has the J or not.  I think my mistake in this hand comes when i call is 3-bet on the flop even though its a very small amount more...(this mistake being worse since i am out of position and have to check to him on the turn making it verrry easy for him to bet)

anyways, frustrating night but these are the two hands that had me thinking the hardest during my tourneys so i thought i would share them
