November 30, 2006, 11AM: Played 2 hours, Lost $72.00 at Big Daddy's - Spokane
$4/8 Texas Hold'em

This should be a win, I was down $300 very quickly.  I also was playing in the dark like a moron.  Having a beer with D and chatting with Ali.  We left soon after, not in the mood to play poker.

November 30, 2006, 11AM: Played 1 hour, Lost $35.00 at Big Daddy's - Spokane
$35 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (14th out of 22 Players)

Daryl's B-day tournament, was cruising along strong until my TT lost to JT.  Something then made me want to gamble and not try so hard.  A round later I was out.

November 26, 2006, 5PM: Played 3 hours, Made $345.00 at Napa Valley Casino
$55 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (3rd out of 50 Players)

This tourney is a bit of a crap shoot.  Blinds go up quickly and double.  The big jump is from 300-600 that goes to 500-1000.  Pretty much no one is safe.  You have to get lucky and make a few show down.

Once on the final table everyone wanted to chop 10 ways.  One guy didn't want to go for it.

Once the blinds passed me and I risked my stack 3 times and survived with a decent stack again they requested a 9 way chop.

I objected and wanted to play.  I just faded my blinds and have a full round before they would come again.  As well, I could fade at least 3 rounds of blinds.  Why should I let them breath?

We get down to 4 handed and now there is never going to be a chop.  Someone will always have the upper hand.  We get down to 3 of us with blind of 3k/6k.  I have about 13k and in the small blind.  The BB has 12k and likes to fold from any blinds to a raise.  The guy on my right has well over 20k.  I'm in SB with Q8, big stack mucks, I'm thinking, ok, if I fold BB will have 15k, me 10k and BB still over 20K with blinds of 3/6k.  I highly doubt if the following hand I raise all in he will muck for only 4k.  I have a chance here to raise all in and have the BB fold and *if he does call the winner has a good chance to play him heads up or offer a chop since the stacks would be about equal.

I run into KK and have 700 chips left.
I double to 2100, then I double again to about 4500.  I muck my button hand and hope they take eachother out.  They get close but the big stack is now about broke.  He fold on the flop with only 7k left and a pot of about 30k??
Next hand I'm in the BB with 78 against the new big stack of Q9, he beats me and easily finishes off the other guy.

Good outcome, only complaint is the rediculious blinds.  No real chance to play poker.
What can you expect though from a small casino buy in.

November 26, 2006, 10AM: Played 2 hours, Made $130.00 at Petrakis House
$30 Buy-In No-Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament (2nd out of 16 Players)

Finally beat these guys.

Key is to only value bet your hands.  They check call so much with so many hands you end up blowing off chips by trying to steal blinds or make a bet on the turn when you think you have the best hand.  This is because they are so passive.  They don't raise pre with AA, KK, AK etc. Nor do they value bet top pair.  They prefer to check and call.

Got heads up with Lisa, she kicked my ass with AA when I had JJ.

November 25, 2006, 9PM: Played 4 hours, Made $365.00 at Napa Valley Casino
$3/6 Omaha Hi-Lo

Wow, another win...

I should stick with this game at this location.

Although the NLH game is great, I need to get my confidence up and get some momentum.

Made most of my money value betting my hands post flop after putting on a pre flop raise.  I find that once you raise pre they have an extremely difficult time folding post.  This is even more true when it is a kill pot.

Lots of calling stations and they rarely bet with a draw.  They also put way to much emphasis on low hands which adds a ton of value on high hands.  I actually saw a guy lay down KKQJ on the button because it was raised pre flop on the kill.

Hope to see things keep going this way.
